Post-viral businesses – are you ready for the next ‘new-normal’

Its April 2021 and we are already 3 months into the new year with 3 months of restrictions behind us and further limits on our freedoms ahead.

The possibility of our lives being affected for many months to come, we all feel like we are living day-to-day, being buffeted by events we have no control over.

But, with a vaccine in full swing we can be hopeful that things are about to change and that, at some point in 2021, we will reach something approaching normality.

Still, even with a vaccine, we are all going to have to think about the lasting changes the pandemic has made to our society, and how this will affect the spaces we share. How will we continue to protect our staff and reassure our customers that our environments are safe places to be?

What will a post-viral business have to do?

As employers, if we require staff to come to our offices, drive our buses and trains or teach in our schools, it puts the onus on us to keep them safe from harm. In short, we have a moral responsibility to protect our staff. We have to pay attention to our infection control procedures to keep our working environments safe and the risk of disease transmission low.

But providing a safe environment for staff also protects the businesses we have worked so hard to build. Even businesses that have thrived during the pandemic will have been affected by increased staff absence or COVID-safe working practices reducing capacity. And even before COVID (yes, there was a time!) we often heard how businesses struggled in winter as flu ‘did the rounds.

One other thing for certain is that as consumers we have become much more aware of how disease is spread. Through Government campaigns such as ‘Hands, Face, Space’ now we know the risks inherent in touching public surfaces, spending time in unventilated spaces and physical contact with others. I am sure we have all felt uncomfortable at times when we are out and about, if people invade our 2m space or we have to touch a well-used door handle or handrail.

So, we are going to have to work hard to encourage the public back, whether we operate a shop, gym, church, or a football stadium. Being able to reassure them that they are low-transmission, safe spaces will be key to welcoming them back and demonstrating our commitment to their safety.

Naturally, Shared Safer Spaces will work with you to achieve this goal. We can mitigate all the infection risks present in the shared environment, but it is the application of Liquid Guard that we are most excited by. We believe Liquid Guard has genuinely revolutionised the approach to antimicrobial surface protection.
