Our environmental commitments...

A partnership with sustainability at the heart...

Safer Shared Spaces is committed to working with suppliers who strive to deliver the best service, with the least negative impact on our environment.  We deliver this within both our products and services that we supply.

We proactively look for, and work with, suppliers who lead the way in their sustainability initiatives and ambitious carbon reduction goals.  We actively promote the positive steps these suppliers are taking, which in turn means that when you work with Safer Shared Spaces you can rest assured that your cleaning and hygiene products will have the least negative impact on our environment.

We are also proud to be working with a supplier with a closed loop system for hygiene waste and cleaning products.

We use our knowledge of environmental initiatives to lead others and influence best practise within our supply chain...

Safer Shared Spaces apply environmental best practice within day-to-day operations and encourage and support initiatives that contribute to an improved environment at work.

We are delighted to have begun our carbon offsetting journey where we review our operational footprint (travel, energy and lighting), reduce our emissions as much as possible, and offset any unavoidable emissions via the World Land Trust (WLT) Carbon Balanced programme.  We input our direct emissions data to calculate our carbon footprint, review the results and map out any areas where we can create reduction pathways.  We then carbon balance our unavoidable emissions with WLT. Our certificate will be available to view shortly.

Environmental Partnership

Safer Shared Spaces has partnered with the World and Trust (WLT) to support their Plant a Tree scheme.

WLT supports the purchase and protection of threatened habitats.

Our commitment is to fund the nurturing, planting and protection of one tree when a new client signs up to our Contract Cleaning service.   We also ask our clients if they would like to ‘charity match’ to double our support to help fight climate change.  The cost for our clients is just £5.

Take a look at the video to learn more about the scheme.

Ethical Position

Fair Pay

Safer Shared Spaces always promotes with its clients the Real London Living Wage. This means that when we tender for business, we supply REAL Living Wage and non-Living Wage rates for our clients to choose. We encourage all of our clients to pay the REAL London Living wage to their staff and we currently have 95% of our clients paying the REAL London Living Wage to their staff which we are delighted about and we will continue to push for moving forward.

We are also in the process of becoming a recognised Service Provider of the Living Wage Foundation, so watch this space for further updates!

Jennifer O’Donnell, MD of Safer Shared Spaces, has lobbied parliament for changes in the law around pay and employment rights for the low paid sector. She has also contributed to Sir David Metcalfe’s report into Modern Day Slavery and in her previous role was a Living Wage Champion; longlisted for a Barclays Responsible Business Award; shortlisted in the Evening Standard Awards for being the Best Employer in London and sat on a panel at the House of Commons to review the challenges of the Living Wage for London businesses and how to get more companies to engage.  This commitment is continued today through Safer Shared Spaces business and there is a strategic objective to ensure all workers are protected with fair pay, employment rights and that they have a positive environment to learn in.
